Midwifery in Pediatrics

Pediatrics is a branch of medicine which plays a major role in midwifery. It prepares the proficient practice nurses/ midwife to administer primary health management to women and their infants, children, and adolescents. Relying on framework of midwifery and adolescent development, it provides direct care for women and children as well as stimulate healthy habits that reduce the risk of ailment and disease. Midwives are the primary caregiver for pregnant women, they can be called as an obstetrician as well. Pediatric nurses often aid doctors by providing medical care and information about diseases and treatment plans to their young patients. Pediatricians work in hospitals, clinics, and are also involved in private practices. Midwives practice in hospitals and private practice medical clinics and may also deliver babies in birthing centers as well as attend at-home births. Some proficient practioners also work in academic institutions as professors. They are efficient enough to prescribe medications, treatments, medical devices, therapeutic and diagnostic measures. They are capable to serve medical care to women from puberty through menopause and includes care for their neonate (neonatology), intrapartum, antepartum, nonsurgical gynecological care and postpartum.

The vital role played by midwives and nurses in re-vitalizing primary health care and people centered care is well recognized. Primary care is especially ripe for leveraging the skills nurses bring to the table. If, as expected, 47 million people enter the system in 2013, most experts believe there will be nowhere near enough primary care physicians to serve them; there is already a shortage. WHO’s two SDNMs (2002–2008 and 2011–2015) provide policy-makers, practitioners and other stakeholders at every level of the health-care system with a flexible framework for broad-based, collaborative action to enhance the capacity of nurses and midwives to contribute to universal health coverage. Children are often prone to ailment and diseases and catch infections easily. Hence the pediatric market in terms of healthcare is a flourishing one, no matter what. Changes in lifestyle and unhealthy habits prevailing in the family largely contribute to the growth of this market. From 2015-2020, APAC region is poised to exhibit highest growth rate during the forecast period due to the flooding investments in pediatrics by major healthcare players in this region, especially from China and India. The global pediatric market is valued to be $XX billion in 2014 and is poised to grow at a steady CAGR of X% to reach $XX billion by the end of forecast period.
